NEW YORK LEAGUE OF CONSERVATION VOTERS ENDORSES ASSEMBLYMAN MATT SLATER FOR RE-ELECTION

The New York League of Conservation Voters (NYLCV) has officially endorsed Assemblyman Matt Slater (R,C-Yorktown) for re-election, recognizing his strong advocacy for environmental protection and his leadership in addressing critical issues like Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs).

Slater has been a steadfast advocate for the environment throughout his tenure in the New York State Assembly. His commitment to safeguarding New York’s natural resources is exemplified by his introduction of legislation classifying Harmful Algal Blooms as a water contaminant, as well as his sponsorship of the Harmful Algal Bloom Monitoring and Prevention Act. This critical legislation aims to combat the rapid growth of algae and bacteria in freshwater lakes, ponds, rivers, and streams, which can pose serious risks to public health, wildlife, and the environment.

“I am honored to have the New York League of Conservation Voters recognize my advocacy for a cleaner and safer environment,” said Slater. “Working to control toxic blooms in our drinking water and secure proper funding towards our natural resources is a top priority of mine and I look forward to working together with NYLCV to take proactive steps in protecting our environment and public health.”

The NYLCV endorsement underscores Assemblyman Slater’s dedication to environmental issues and his effectiveness in promoting policies that protect New York’s natural resources. As a recognized leader in environmental advocacy, Slater has led the fight to protect the Hudson Valley’s environment by delivering $500 million for clean water investments and $400 million to replenish the Environmental Protect Fund.

As the 2024 election approaches, Slater remains focused on advancing environmental initiatives and working closely with organizations like the NYLCV to build a sustainable future for the Hudson Valley and beyond.

“As an assemblymember, Matt Slater has advocated for better and more expansive electric vehicle charging infrastructure across the state while also fighting to ensure public transparency with regard to lead pipes – a critical issue for public health. Prior to that, as Yorktown Supervisor, he organized a Climate Smart Communities Task Force, led an LED streetlight conversion project, and composed a comprehensive Climate-Resilient Hazard Mitigation Plan. From local projects to statewide policy, Matthew Slater has proven his commitment to the environment and we are proud to endorse his candidacy for reelection,” said Julie Tighe, President of the New York League of Conservation Voters.
